![]() Many can be earned easily enough if completion is all that’s desired, but most will be unlocked naturally over the course of a regular career.įootball Manager 2021: Xbox Edition is a competent version of the game that does what you would expect well – it provides a deep and immersive football manager experience to those on Xbox consoles. The achievements in FM21: Xbox Edition are standard fare, familiar to anyone who has played any previous FM title from the last few years. This version of FM still demands a lot of time and dedication, and many of the missing features would have improved the experience in a number of ways. It is difficult not to miss many of the features that the full game has: team talks, press conferences, player interactions, expanded training, etc. But if you’re capable of playing this on PC, most will opt to play the full version (which arrived on the MS Store and Game Pass in April 2021). On PC, users can add many more leagues and nations, add custom graphics, change the resolution, and navigate freely with a Keyboard and Mouse. It’s worth noting that these frustrations are avoided completely by playing FM: Xbox Edition on PC via Play Anywhere. This is mitigated somewhat by activating the cursor, but the limitations of a controller over a mouse will be immediately apparent as soon as anyone sits down to play this, and most will opt to make use of a keyboard and mouse, which was patched in early this year. The controls add further frustration: navigating the menus and accomplishing various contextual tasks (including anything that would have been accessed using the Right Mouse Button) is a frustrating and convoluted process. This means that a lot of information can not be seen side-by-side as desired, such as the team formation and player list on the tactics screen. ![]() On consoles, the menus and interface are kept at a large size so they can be seen from across the room. However, the biggest inhibition to accomplishing these goals and enjoying the FM gameplay is the game’s controls and limited UI. ![]() These elements – the core FM experience – is here, and it works well, as you would expect. Players will take charge of tactics, training, and transfers for their club as they look to achieve their own personal goals as well as meet their board’s expectations. The Xbox Edition allows players to create a manager and load up to 5 nations and leagues (more if only playing on PC), and then begin their career over the course of 30 seasons. The core gameplay in Football Management 2021: Xbox Edition works well, and as a yearly title, the incremental changes that feature make the experience slightly better than the year before. This engine looks particularly good on 4K TVs utilizing the horsepower of the Series X, which allows the match day engine to really shine. The match day engine also looks very good – the players are animated better than ever, and there are fewer head-in-hands moments when your players inconceivably shoot at wide angles instead of passing the ball. There are also a good amount of licensed player faces and club logos in many global leagues, and more can be custom-added on PC for those leagues that are missing (such as the English Premier League). ![]() That said, the menus are logical and laid out well, making it clear where to find what you are looking for in most instances. Most of the game is played on a simulated email inbox and similar other screens that mask the complex spreadsheets and algorithms running in the background. While it does provide a solid and enjoyable all-round experience, it will ultimately frustrate users on consoles due to restrictive controls and a limited UI, and most hardcore FM fans will come away disappointed over the many missing features.Īfter years of absence, Sports Interactive has brought this year’s version of the massively successful football management game back to Xbox consoles and PC via Play Anywhere.įootball Manager 2021: Xbox Edition is modeled off of the ‘Touch’ version on PC, which offers a streamlined version for Football Manager fans who have neither the time, the interest, or the PC capabilities to run the full-fledged FM experience.įootball Manager is not a graphic-intensive game.
